Kellogg’s is on the lookout for new apprentices at its Wrexham Factory in a bid to nurture ambitious talent of the future.

The cereal giant is encouraging passionate and driven individuals, who want a career in the manufacturing industry to apply online by March 24.

The scheme allows apprentices to earn while they learn, gaining qualifications including an NVQ Level 3 in Food manufacturing Excellence progressing to Foundation Degree level.

The five-year apprenticeship consists of a year in college, following by four years working both on the factory floor and hitting the books. All apprentices work in operations during the programme on high speed machinery.

Discussing being able to learn while he earns, Liam Naylor, 22, described what it is like to be a Kellogg’s apprentice.

He said: “Kellogg’s offers the best craft apprenticeship for anyone looking to go into the engineering field. The company has offered me great support in training and helping me to complete my qualifications with high grades.

“The job role varies from day to day when you’re a Kellogg apprentice, one day you could be working on a cooker in the process section and the next you might be repairing a crane in our warehouse.

“By being a craft apprentice for Kellogg’s you always feel supported by a great family company and you’re able to take great pride in the work that you do because you are part of a team.”

The Kellogg’s Wrexham apprenticeship scheme runs in partnership with Coleg Cambria. The scheme is open to individuals aged 16 and over.

Speaking of the doors opened by the apprentice scheme, Technical Operations Manager,

Mike Edge, said: “Twenty-five years ago all I wanted to do was fix things so I applied for an apprenticeship at Kellogg’s.

“I was lucky enough to finish my apprenticeship and studied part time to get an honours degree in Mechanical engineering and became a Chartered Engineer.”

The 41-year-old, added: “Since gaining all these qualifications I have had many different roles in Kellogg’s including engineering, environmental, safety and operational and have worked in the various locations including Wrexham plant, Portable Foods cereal bar plant, Spanish cereal plant and European engineering travelling all over the world.”

The Wrexham Factory has been manufacturing for over 35 years including top-selling cereals Special K and All-Bran.

Dan Owens, 37, Maintenance Manager, added:  “I started out with Kellogg’s as a Mechanical apprentice in 1996, and after I had completed my apprenticeship I decided that I wanted to progress in the business.

“Many of us that started as apprentices have moved to Leadership roles at the plant, so the opportunities are there if you want to progress your own development”

The apprentice scheme has been running at the Kellogg’s factory for over 30 years, many people who have worked for the company came to Kellogg’s on the apprenticeship programme.
