KELLOGG’S EMPLOYEES GET THAT “FRIDAY FEELING” WITH SUMMER HOURS SCHEME

The Beast from the East may only have been a few weeks ago but enjoying Britain's fast-approaching summer sunshine has just been made easier for staff at Kellogg's UK office.

Kellogg’s Summer Hours scheme, now in its 15th year, begins this Friday and will run from May to September. The scheme means all office-based employees are able to finish work from 12pm on a Friday provided they have completed a full week’s hours*.

When last month gave us the hottest April day for nearly 70 years, reports appeared across the country of Brits skipping work to enjoy a day in the sun.

Kellogg’s, which is giving all 420 employees at its office in MediaCityUK the opportunity to take every Friday afternoon off during the summer months. The company says more time away from desks as the weather warms up will boost productivity and give staff flexibility to enjoy long weekends, pursue hobbies and spend extra time with family and friends.

Sue Platt, Kellogg’s UK HR director, said: “Flexible working is something we take very seriously at Kellogg’s and we encourage all our UK office-based employees to make the most of the Summer Hours scheme.

“Research shows people who feel they have a good work life balance work 21% harder than those who don’t**; Summer Hours is part of a package we offer to ensure we provide work life balance opportunities to all employees.”

In January, Kellogg’s opened its doors to its new UK headquarters based in Orange Tower MediaCityUK. The new headquarters has been developed to reflect the business’s ambition and future ahead, whilst bringing to life its strong heritage and brand.

Bruce Learner, Kellogg’s European corporate responsibility manager comments: “Summer hours are really useful to me because I can get away early on a Friday and miss the traffic. It gives me a chance to head to the countryside and get some much-needed headspace without eating into my weekend.

Florence Kayll, Kellogg’s assistant brand manager said: “Summer Hours massively improves motivation during the summer months and people seem to be just as productive. When the sun’s out, no one wants to be cooped up inside on a Friday, so there’s more drive to get your work done quickly throughout the week.”
