With just 100 days before the Olympic Games officially start in Rio de Janeiro, iconic Olympians Sir Steve Redgrave, Rebecca Adlington and Louis Smith have joined forces to re-create classic wake up scenes from the big screen.

Olympic legend and five-time gold medal winner, Sir Steve Redgrave, wound back to the eighties to take on the infamous shower scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, whilst double gold medal winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington took an iron to her hair to transform into singleton Bridget Jones. Artistic gymnast and three time Olympic medallist Louis Smith re-created a trio of  scenes, sporting slicked back locks as he impersonated Home Alone child tear away, Kevin McCallister, flexed his muscles just like Tobey Maguire in Spiderman and fulfilled his dream of impersonating child wizard Harry Potter.

The ambassadors have been recruited to tell the story of Kellogg’s Great Starts campaign, championing the importance of a great start and sharing their stories of success – fuelled by Kellogg’s cereals and snacks.

The public are being urged to share how they start the day right by using #GreatStarts which will enter them into an exclusive competition to win a pair of tickets to the Olympic Games. Research has shown how our wake up routines shape our performance for our day and overall lives. Kellogg’s Great Starts aims to encourage everyone to reach their full potential every day.

Sir Steve Redgrave was transformed into Ferris Bueller for the scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where he’s singing in the shower, his hair in a Mohican having just convinced his parents that he’s ill enough to take the day off school - when he’s not ill at all. Says Sir Steve (who is unlikely ever to take a day off himself):

“I think I have a wonderful head of hair but trying to get a Mohican out of it would be very difficult. I am not quite an old man yet but going very grey, so wearing a very dark wig shaped into a Mohican when I used to be blonde was a bit odd when I looked in the mirror! It was a lot of fun and probably the best photo shoot I’ve ever done over the years.”

Rebecca Adlington became Bridget Jones in the Edge of Reason for the scene when she tries to iron her backcombed hair before going to the Law Council Ball with Mark Darcy. Rebecca smiles:

“It was really nice to do something a bit different and pretend to be Bridget Jones for a day! When you have a child your life is actually a bit chaotic like that. It’s a case of waking up and sorting your child out. I need to change her nappy, then I need to feed her and I’m a mess! You literally get up and stay in your PJ’s with your hair all over the place!”

Louis Smith meanwhile, dressed up as three characters: Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman when he wakes up in the morning with his superpowers, the scene in Home Alone where Macaulay Culkin's Kevin McCallister screams putting on aftershave, and Louis’s favourite - becoming Harry Potter for a breakfast scene in the Great Hall.

“My ultimate was recreating the Harry Potter scene because I’m a massive Harry Potter fan. When my agent told me I’d be dressed up as him eating in the Great Hall, I really thought he was winding me up! I was sold straight away. I’m doing up my spare bedroom at the moment in the style of Harry Potter, which keeps me busy. I’ve always loved sci-fi films with aliens and super heroes - I’m a bit of a geek like that. I get lost in those kinds of films but when I watch Harry Potter I get so sucked in to that different world, it is such a good mental escape for me. You could talk to me while I’m watching it and I wouldn’t hear what you’re saying! It’s magical, I love it.”

Louise Thompson-Davies, spokeswoman for Kellogg’s UK & ROI said:

“We’re delighted to see our Olympic ambassadors sharing their tips on how to get a Great Start to your day and seeing classic Hollywood wake up scenes brought back to life was a great start to our day.

“We can’t wait to see everyone’s tips for a Great Start and to reward the lucky winners with tickets to Rio and to get behind our athletes. We’ll be supporting Team GB and can’t wait to enter into the Olympic spirit with the rest of the country.”

The Great Starts competition is open to anyone over 18 and you can enter by sharing tips, pictures and videos via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook on how you get off to a Great Start using the hashtag Great Starts.
